Yogi: Gorakhpur, Phulpur losses are a big lesson for us

UP CM Yogi Adityanath on the party's loss in the both the Phulpur and Gorakhpur seats in the state: "We accept the verdict of the people. I congratulate the winning candidates.

"This result is unexpected and we will review the shortcomings. Gorakhpur, Phulpur losses are a big lesson for us. We will assess the results.

"Yeh BSP-SP ka jo rajnitik saudebaazi, desh ke vikas ko baadhit karne ke liye bani hai. Iske baare mein hum apni rann neeti tayaar karenge. The BSP-SP political trade-off will stem the development of the country. We will prepare our battle plan on this.


"In bypolls local issues are more important. The general elections are about national issues," he said alluding to statements by the opposition that that an alliance could see the BJP lose in 2019.


The Samajwadi Party won the Phulpur Lok Sabha seat and was poised to bag the Gorakhpur seat, the constituencies vacated by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya, respectively. The Bahujan Samaj Party gave its support to the SP in the two seats while the Congress put up its own candidates.
