The Uttar Pradesh government files its first draft of the vision document on the protection and preservation of the Taj Mahal in the Supreme Court.

This document, prepared by the Delhi School of Planning and Architecture, was put together after the apex court came down heavily on the government while hearing a petition filed by environmentalist MC Mehta.

First takes of the draft:

1. Entire Taj precinct should be declared a no-plastic zone, use of bottled water should also be prohibited, the UP govt tells the SC.

2. Comprehensive traffic management plan needed to promote pedestrian movement in the Taj heritage precinct.

3. Roads along the Yamuna riverfront should be planned so traffic is limited and pedestrian movement encouraged.

4. There should be no construction on the Yamuna floodplain, riverbank should only have natural plantations.

Further details awaited.
