Thousands of spectators gathered at the Attari-Wagah border to witness the electrifying Beating Retreat Ceremony.

The drill is characterised by elaborate and rapid dancelike manoeuvres, which have been described as colourful. It also signifies the rivalry, as well as brotherhood and cooperation between the two nations.

The practice began in 1959 and has continued without a break, but for during the 1965 and 1971 wars.

Notably, the Border Security Force will not be sharing sweets with the Pakistan Rangers at Attari-Wagah border. While the BSF didnt elaborate on the reasons behind not following the customary exchange of sweets, reports said the move by the security force is protest against the continuous ceasefire violations by Pakistan at the International Border and the Line of Control.
