Newly elected Independent MLA from Gujarat and Dailt leader, Jignesh Mevani said that the Narendra Modi government would pay a price for the atrocities reigned upon Dalits across the country.

Jignesh Mevani was in Hyderabad to attend the second death anniversary of Hyderabad Central University research scholar Rohith Vemula.

He met Manda Krishna Madiga, a Schedule Caste sub-caste community leader who was arrested by Telangana government and lodged in Chenchalguda jail and pledged him his moral support.

Jignesh Mevani also met Rohith Vemula's mother Radhika Vemula and Dalit writer Kancha Illaiyah.

Mevani also announced that he along with Radhika Vemula, will campaign heavily in upcoming Karnataka elections and insure the defeat of Bharatiya Janata Party and Sangh Parivar.

In a tweet, Mevani urged Radhika to contest in 2019 elections and teach a lesson to 'Manu-Smriti Irani'.

"I strongly appeal to our inspiration Radhika (amma) Vemula to contest in 2019 elections and teach a lesson to Manusmriti Irani in Parliament," he wrote.
