Life came full circle for ex-telecom minister A Raja on December 26, 2017 when he penned an emotional letter to Manmohan Singh seeking his support, 10 years after he wrote to the then Prime Minister regarding the allocation of 2G spectrum.

Now, in light of Raja's acquittal in the 2G spectrum case, Manmohan Singh wrote back expressing his happiness at the DMK leader's vindication.

"You will recall that I assured you several times that I had done nothing wrong but rather acted in national interest and that I would prove this," Raja said in a letter adressed to Manmohan Singh.

Raja said he understood why Singh couldn't openly defend him when he was charged with corruption in the controversial "2G scam case", but now that his name has been cleared, he hoped that the former PM could acknowledge that he'd remained "loyal and faithful" throughout.

To this, Manmohan Singh replied: "I'm very happy that you stand vindicated in the 2G case."

On December 21, a special CBI court had acquitted all accused, including former telecom minister A Raja, in the Rs 30,000 crore 2G spectrum allocation scam cases. Special CBI judge O P Saini said in his judgment that the prosecution had "miserably failed to prove any of its charge" against the accused.

In his letter to Manmohan Singh, Raja ruminated on the vagaries of fate. The 2G case, Raja said, played a vital role in the UPA's defeat in the 2015. It also took its toll on Raja, who had to spend 15 months in jail, besides the arbitrary summons to court for seven years of his life.
