Karnataka may go to the polls on May 15

The date for the assembly election in Karnataka is likely to be May 15, according to a highly placed source in the Election Commission.

The Election Commission is likely to announce the date in New Delhi in mid April.

Our sources tell us that by early April, the three election commissioners will be in Bengaluru and two other cities in Karnataka to to assess the state's preparedness for the polls.

The current Karnataka assembly's tenure expires on May 28 and the new House has to be constituted before that date.

School board examinations in Karnataka are likely to end by March and other examinations around April 14. The EC will announce the poll dates around April 15, keeping this in mind, our source tells us.
