Canada's Prime Minister Justin Trudeau addressed the Jaspal Atwal issue, saying that he and his Indian counterpart, Narendra Modi didn't talk about it.

Trudeau said, "Obviously the situation was unacceptable. Like I said yesterday this individual should have never been invited & the MP responsible has taken responsibility. I would be having a conversation with the MP in Canada."

Trudeau's maiden India visit plunged into a controversy on Thursday over a dinner invitation to convicted Khalistani terrorist Jaspal Atwal by the Canadian high commissioner to India.

The Canadian PMO also said in a statement that Atwal was not part of Trudeaus official delegation.

Atwal was convicted for trying to kill the then Punjab minister Malkiat Singh Sidhu in Vancouver in 1986.

Atwal's presence comes at a time when Trudeaus pro-Khalistan approach is being criticised by many including Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh, who raised the issue with the Canadian prime minister during a meeting.
