The mortal remains of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee are being taken to the BJP Headquarters from his residence at 6-A Krishna Menon Marg bungalow.

Vajpayee's mortal remains were kept overnight at his residence after he was brought from AIIMS last evening.

The family threw open the gates of the house to the public to pay homage at 6 am instead of 7:30 am as decided earlier given the serpentine queues outside the house.

Heavy security arrangements, including deployment of police, traffic and paramilitary personnel, were in place around the bungalow.

The mortal remains will now be taken to the Bharatiya Janata Party's national headquarters at Deen Dayal Upadhyay Marg. The final journey to the Rashtriya Smriti Sthal would begin around 1 pm. Vajpayee died at the AIIMS hospital here yesterday at the age of 93, following a prolonged illness.
