Prime Minister Narendra Modi's comments about BK Hariprasad, the Congress MP who was a candidate in the August 9 Rajya Sabha deputy chairperson election, have been expunged from the records. PM Modi's comments were delivered after Hariprasad lost the election to the NDA's Harivansh Narayan Singh.

This is perhaps the first time that a part of a prime minister's statement in Parliament has been removed from the records.

Speaking in the Rajya Sabha after Harivansh comfortably won the election to the Rajya Sabha deputy chairperson's post, PM Modi made a remark that involved a wordplay on BK Hariprasad's name, his initials.

The Congress leader was miffed by PM Modi's jibe. "The Prime Minister belittled the dignity of the chair and brought down the dignity of the House," Hariprasad said.

The Rajya Sabha Secretariat has confirmed that the part of the prime minister's speech that involved a wordplay on BK Hariprasad's name has been expunged from the House's records.
