Long live Karunanidhi, chants ring out as the gun carriage with the DMK patriarch's s body is being taken for burial to Marina beach.

Mixed emotions from the crowd lining the 2-kilometre road to Marina beach, some weeping, others singing and playing music in celebration of the life that Karunanidhi lived.

The Madras High Court granted permission for Karunanidhi's burial at Marina beach this morning, in a huge relief to the party. If the court had not decided in the DMK's favour, the images of relative calm in Chennai, would have been quite different.

At Marina Beach, the moment of the court order came in, the ground was prepared for his burial. The memorial, will quite naturally, be built at the place, later on.

Karunanidhi died on Tuesday in Chennai. He was 94. The Tamil Nadu government has announced a seven-day mourning in his honour.
