40 DMK supporters injured in lathi-charge at Rajaji Hall

At least 40 people have been injured in a stampede outside Rajaji Hall. They have been taken to a government hospital.

The police had to resort to a lathicharge after DMK cadres broke the barricades around the casket holding Karunanidhi's mortal remains when they spotted a gap in the security.

As we said earlier, only the VVIP can pay homage at Rajaji Hall. The PM had paid his respects at Rajaji Hall this morning, but thereafter all hell broke lose as emotional DMK cadre broke through the barriers.

The commissioner of police is at the spot to control the situation.

Even yesterday, after news of Karunanidhi's demise, riot police were called in to handle any untoward situation.
