Many supporters still hope that Karunanidhi will overcome his declining health and emerge to speak to the cadres. Vehicular movement to the DMK chief's Gopalpuram residence is now restricted. Supporters say he is the 'grandfather' of Dravida politics, the tallest leader in Tamil Nadu and they expect he will revive. Karunanidhi is 94. He has never lost an election since 1954.
