Fadnavis announces Rs 5 lakh compensation; orders probe

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has ordered a probe into Friday's stampede which killed 22 people. The chief minister tweeted out saying, "Enquiry will be conducted by government of Maharashtra and Ministry of Railways and necessary, strict action will be taken."

Vinod Tawde, the state health minister also announced a Rs 5 lakh compensation to the families of those who died during the stampede in Mumbai. 

He added that the government would bear the costs of treatment for those injured in the tragedy. 

Meanwhile, Union Railway Minister Piyush Goyal expressed condolences to the families of those who died in the stampede. "We will take all necessary steps to avoid such incidents in future," he said.
