Rajkummar Rao-starrer 'Newton' is India's official entry in the Foreign Language Film category at the 2018 Oscars.

Rao, who played the lead role in the film, took to Twitter to share the news. "Very happy to share this news that #NEWTON is India's official entry to the #OSCARS this year. Congratulations team," he posted.

Directed by Amit Masurkar, 'Newton', which hit screens on September 22, revolves around a government clerk who tries his best to conduct free and fair voting in a Naxal-controlled town. The film also stars Pankaj Tripathi, Raghubir Yadav, Anjali Patil, Danish Hussain, Sanjay Mishra.

Rediff.com's Sreehari Nair in his review of the film said, "While filled with startling insights and questions, and buoyed by terrific performances throughout, Newton suffers from a lack of end-to-end clarity. It is a near-great film, but one that for some reason doesn't express itself fully."
