Reacting to the Calcutta high court's order to revoke her government's restrictions on immersion of Durga idols, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today said she will try her best to keep peace but asked who will take the responsibility if there's trouble.

"Someone can slit my throat but no one can tell me what to do. I will do what I can to keep peace," she said after the court order.

"I can take responsibility for peace but someone else will have to take responsibility if there's trouble," she added.

Mamata also alleged that there is a conspiracy against her government.

"There's a conspiracy against us. They want to create a disturbance in Bengal," she said.

The court today allowed immersion of Durga idols on all days from Vijayadashami on September 30, including on Muharram, and directed the West Bengal government to make necessary security arrangements.

A division bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Rakesh Tiwari and Justice Harish Tandon asked the state government to chalk out designated routes for immersion and tazia processions.

It said that immersion of Durga idols would be held on all days from Vijayadashami on September 30 according to the Hindu almanac, including that on Muharram on October 1 when such processions were prohibited by the state administration.

The bench also directed the state government to put out advertisements giving information about the routes and also for ensuring amity and harmony between the communities.
