Today, the atmosphere outside the road leading to the newer building of the Mumbai sessions court was different. Extra  barricades were set up and the area was bristling with OB news vans.

The judgment in the 1983 Mumbai blasts case had been announced and Sudeep Pasbola's client, Abu Salem, had been sentenced to life imprisonment.

Pasbola was due at the CBI court to continue his examination of Shyamvar Pinturam Rai, the second witness and Accused No 3 turned approver in the Sheena Bora murder case.

Pasbola was late.

Inside, on the third floor, in courtroom no 51, Judge Jagdale, his staff, the public prosecutors, Khanna's lawyer Shreyansh Mithare and a few assistant lawyers waited. When Pasbola walked in, over 15 minutes late, he requested a new date. He said he had a "severe headache".

He sat pressing the bridge of his nose and waited.

Jagdale accepted his request and the case will now proceed tomorrow.   Pasbola spent a few minutes with his client Indrani Mukherjea, who was dressed in a mehndi green Lucknowi, outside the courtroom.

Khanna chatted with his brother, who had brought him a parcel from Theobroma, and his lawyer while Peter ate some pomegranate his sister had bought him.

Twenty minutes later, a woman police officer, began chivvying the three prisoners on their way.
