Bharatiya Janata Party Uttar Pradesh MLA Sangeet Som has praised that state government for 'removing Taj Mahal from the list of historical places'.

Addressing a gathering, he said that wrong history was taught to students till date and 'our government will change history'.

"We're working on bringing our neglected history into textbooks. We're teaching students about Lord Ram, Maharana Pratap and Chhatrapati Shivaji. At the same time, we're removing Babar, Akbar and Aurangzeb from textbooks," Som said.

"I guarantee you history will change," he added.

Talking about Taj Mahal, he said, "Many were sad when Taj Mahal was removed from list of historical places. What history? Its creator wanted to wipe out Hindus from UP and India."

Referring to Mughal emperor Shah Jahan, who got the Taj Mahal built, Som said, "It would be unfortunate for our country if our children are still taught the history of such people."

The UP tourism department had recently released a booklet detailing future plans about famous monuments and tours.

While the booklet had mentioned tourist destinations like the Gorakhpur temple, it mysteriously excluded the Taj Mahal.  -- with inputs from ANI
