BJP governors make a beeline for Pranab

The governors conference will be held in New Delhi on October 12 and 13, the first convened by Ram Nath Kovind after becoming President.

An informal governors conference without the President and prime minister is being held on October 11, which Andhra Pradesh Governor ESL Narasimhan as the Doyen of Governors will preside over, to discuss the sub-groups of last year's conference and their report.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has indicated that he would spend the maximum time with governors to know their state's political, economic and developmental  issues, which he cannot directly discuss with the chief ministers. Modi wants feedback from governors on the "ground situation" in the states.

An interesting sidelight of this three-day event is that most of the governors from the BJP are keen to pay a courtesy call on Kovind's predecessor Pranab Mukherjee. At least 18 governors have sought an appointment with Pranabda, it is learnt.

After five new governors were appointed on Vijayadashami only the Madhya Pradesh Raj Bhavan is now vacant.

The grapevine has it that in all probability it is being kept vacant for Anandiben Patil, who may be sent to Bhopal after the Gujarat elections, say, around January.
