Senior Congress leader Ahmed Patel, who is the political advisor to Congress President Sonia Gandhi has said that the BJP and Narendra Modi's style of campaign has led to the downfall of the Congress. Patel is believed to have conveyed this to 10 Janpath after he watched live telecasts of the PM's rallies and the response he got from the crowds in Gujarat. Congress insiders say while they are not hoping for wonders in the Gujarat polls, they have been feeling particularly let down by the new set of advisors Rahul Gandhi had brought in from New Delhi. 

According to the latest survey conducted by the Congress, it hopes for a maximum of 40 seats. If Modi's carpet-bombing of Gujarat is effective, the numbers may come down to 25.
