Another case of a person starving to death in want of Aadhaar-based verification has come to light in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh.

A woman in Bareilly starved to death because she could not go the ration shop as she was unwell for five days. His husband was refused ration because the shop owner wanted biometric fingerprint of the woman, ANI reported.

This third such case after two in Jharkhand where denial of ration due to lack of Aadhaar-ration card linkage resulted in death of a man and an 11-year-old girl.

However, the government had said that all ration shops have been asked not to refuse ration in case of no Aadhaar and also refused to link the two deaths to starvation.  -- ANI
