Jaitley: Scope of more GST rate cuts; 'juvenile' to link it with polls

Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said on Monday that it is 'juvenile politics' to link rationalisation of goods and services tax rates with elections or political demand.

He said this in response to remarks from the opposition parties that GST on a majority of items was reduced from 28 per cent to 18 per cent in view of the Gujarat assembly elections.

Jaitley said there is scope for further rationalisation of GST rates and 'revenue buoyancy' will decide the future course of rationalisation.

He, however, ruled out single tax rate of GST, says those seeking single rate have no understanding of tariff structure. -- PTI
