All schools in Delhi reopened today even as air quality remains in the "severe" category.

Students and teachers were seen wearing masks who came to schools after a five-day break announced by the Delhi government in view of the alarming air pollution levels.

Pollution levels in Delhi on Sunday night remained in the "severe" category -- the highest level on the Air Quality Index.

At 8 pm, levels of particulate matter PM10 and PM2.5 were at 622 and 638 at Lodhi Road, 584 and 568 in Noida, and 544 and 512 at Terminal 3 of the Delhi airport, according to the government's System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research.

Meanwhile the authorities in Gurugram have decided that all government and private schools in Gurugram will remain closed on Monday due to continuing smog.

All schools were asked to remain closed from Thursday while primary schools were ordered to remain closed from Wednesday following government orders in view of the "unbearable" air pollution.
