5-judge bench to hear plea on bribes taken in the name of judges

The Supreme Court on Thursday agreed to hear urgently a plea regarding alleged bribes being taken in the name of judges. A bench of justices J Chelameswar and S Abdul Nazeer agreed to list the matter before itself on the request of former Supreme Court Bar Association president and senior advocate Dushyant Dave.

The court refers to a five-judge Constitution Bench a plea alleging that bribes were taken in the name of judges. The SC issues notice to the Centre and CBI on the plea seeking the setting up of SIT headed by ex-SC judge and monitored by the court. The SC asks the CBI to keep in safe custody documents of an FIR in which ex-Odisha HC judge is also an accused, the court also directed the CBI to produce documents in a sealed cover
before the constitution bench on November 13.

The CBI FIR alleges that ex-HC judge, others conspired and sought gratification assuring favourable settlement of case in the SC.
