UPDATE: SC sentences Justice CS Karnan to 6 months in jail 'immediately'

The Supreme Court on Tuesday held Calcutta high court justice CS Karnan guilty of contempt of court. The court sentenced Karnan to six-month imprisonment.

The apex court has also banned the media from publishing content of orders passed by Justice Karnan.

The apex court verdict came after Karnan on Monday "sentenced" Chief Justice of India JS. Khehar and seven other judges of the Supreme Court to five years' rigorous imprisonment.

Justice Karnan had on 4 May declined to undergo a mental health checkup as ordered by the apex court, telling a team of doctors he is "absolutely normal" and has a "stable mind".
