Sohail Mahmood to replace Basit as Pak's envoy to India

The Pakistan government has approved the appointment of Sohail Mahmood as Pakistan's next high commissioner to India, according to reports.

Mahmood, a career diplomat, will replace the incumbent envoy to India Abdul Basit this month.

Basit was appointed in 2014.

Mahmood joined the Foreign Service of Pakistan in 1985. His first posting abroad was in Turkey's capital of Ankara between 1991 and 1994. He has also served as Pakistan's Ambasador to Thailand between 2009 and 2013
