When O Panneerselvam rebelled against V K Sasikala in February he expected the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam MLAs to follow him. But he attracted only 13 legislators, leaving the field clear for the Sasikala faction to secure a majority in the assembly and also have a chief minister of their choice.

But OPS has always believed the party cadres are with him, and to prove this he is embarking today on a tour of all the 30 districts of Tamil Nadu.

Whether the cadres are drawn to his tour will decide which faction will ultimately take control of the ruling AIADMK.

Before setting out, OPS will hold a meeting of party cadres today at 5.30 pm at the YMCA ground, Perungudi, in suburban Chennai.

As they say, the battle lines are clearly drawn in Tamil Nadu.
