21:51   Trump abruptly ends interview after wiretapping questions
US President Trump cut off an Oval Office interview with CBS anchor John Dickerson and gestured for him to leave the room when Dickerson repeatedly asked about the president's unfounded wiretapping claims.

Trump signaled that he still believes, as he tweeted on March 4, that "Obama had my 'wires tapped' in Trump Tower just before the victory."

Obama aides, intelligence community officials and some prominent Republican lawmakers have all disputed the claim. And the president has provided no evidence to back it up.

But when Dickerson brought it up during an interview taping on Saturday, Trump said, "I think our side's been proven very strongly and everybody's talking about it and frankly, it should be discussed."

The abrupt end to the tough interview was in marked contrast to some of the smoother interviews Trump has had recently. Media critics have pointed out his preference for friendlier outlets, like conservative-themed shows on Fox News.

21:10   It was buffalo meat, Kajol clarifies after video of her eating 'beef' goes viral
Actress Kajol was on top of the hit list of trolls on Monday. All because she had posted a video of a 'beef' dish that her friend had prepared.

However, the actress later clarified that it was actually buffalo meat.

Apparently, to avoid a massive controversy and to save oneself from the so-called "gau-rakshaks", the actress, even before she could settle the taste of the palatial dish, had to issue a statement on Twitter, saying she did not want to hurt religious sentiments and that the dish was not beef.

"A video of me at a friend's lunch said that there was a beef dish at the table. That's a miscommunication. What was shown was buffalo meat, that is legally available meat."

"I'm issuing this clarification because this is a sensitive matter that may hurt religious sentiments, which is not my intention," Kajol wrote.

She deleted the clip from her Instagram and Facebook accounts after it attracted negative comments.

20:29   Will not undergo medical examination: Justice Karnan
Adopting a belligerent approach, Justice C S Karnan of Calcutta high court today said he will not undergo a medical examination as ordered by the Supreme Court in connection with a contempt case against him.

Justice Karnan, who has been restrained by the apex court from exercising his judicial and administrative powers, also threatened to "pass suo motu suspension order against the Director General of Police of West Bengal, if the DGP functions against my wish."

The Supreme Court earlier in the day ordered medical examination of Justice Karnan on May 4 by a board of doctors, to be set up by a government hospital in Kolkata.

A seven-judge bench headed by Chief Justice J S Khehar also directed the West Bengal DGP to form a team of police officers which could assist the medical board in carrying out the medical examination on Justice Karnan.

"This kind of harassment order against my sanity is an additional insult to an innocent Dalit Judge who is of sound health and mind," Justice Karnan said shortly after the apex court pronounced the order.

20:09   Sibal goes back in time, asks who would gift PM Modi 'bangles'
Launching a scathing attack at the Bharatiya Janta Party over the mutilation of Indian soldiers' bodies by the Pakistan Army, Congress leader Kapil Sibal asked whether any saffron party leader would now send bangles to Prime Minister Narendra Modi as Union Minister Smriti Irani wanted to gift former prime minister Manmohan Singh during the United Progressive Alliance regime following a similar incident.

"When a similar incident took place during the UPA regime, a BJP MP wanted to gift bangles to the then prime minister. I would like to ask her that will she now do the same and gift bangles to Prime Minister Modi after this mutilation," Kapil Sibal said.

A few years ago, then BJP MP Smriti Irani, while delivering a speech in Indore during the UPA regime, had said that she would send "bangles" to then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh after terrorists attacked the Indian Army in 2013.

Pakistan's Inter-Services Public Relations on Monday refuted Indian Army claims that Pakistani soldiers killed two members of the Indian Army patrol on the Line of Control and mutilated their bodies.

"Pakistan Army did not commit any ceasefire violation on the LoC or a BAT (Border Action Team) action in Buttal sector as alleged by India," said the ISPR statement.

"Indian blame of mutilating Indian soldiers' bodies are also false," added the ISPR statement. "Pakistan Army is a highly professional force and shall never disrespect a soldier even Indian," the ISPR statement said, in response to the allegations.

The Indian Army claimed that Pakistani forces fired rockets and mortars at two Indian posts along the LoC."

18:46   'No region can validate terrorism': PM Modi's veiled attack on Pak
Amid the worsening ties between India and Pakistan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday urged all nations to work unanimously to uproot the terrorism network, while adding that no region could "validate terrorism."

"Terrorism is a shared worry, we agreed, no impact or goal and no region can validate terrorism," he said, while issuing a joint statement with Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan.

Prime Minister Modi also, in another veiled attack on Islamabad, asserted that stern action should also be taken against the countries that "shelter terrorism."

"The nations of the world need to work as one to disrupt the terrorist networks, their financing and cross border movement of terrorists," he added.

Prime Minister Modi further said that an action should be taken against those who create and conceive, support and sustain, shelter and spread ideologies of violence.

International powers should take actions on this and should declare Pakistan as a terrorist nation," BJP leader Ravindra Raina said.

Asserting that India would give a befitting reply to Pakistan for the barbaric act, Raina further said that they would not tolerate such acts.

Venting his ire over the same, BJP leader Nalin Kohli said that India would make sure that such 'despicable' act does not go unpunished.

18:01   Banning red beacon to end VIP culture is 'superficial surgery': Congress
While accepting Prime Minister Narendra Modi's instructions to put a ban on the red beacon in order to bring an end to VIP culture, the Congress on Monday demanded that the road blockade for the president and prime minister must also be banned.

"If the government feels that putting ban on red beacon would remove the VIP culture in the country then I think road blockade for the President and Prime Minister must also be banned to discourage the VIP culture," Congress leader Ashok Chaudhary said.

Chaudhary drew an analogy between a 'superficial surgery' and the current ban on red beacon, saying that the government's aim should be to ban several things encouraging VIP culture instead of focusing on only one.

Pakistan on Monday extended the detention of Jamaat-ud-Dawa chief Hafiz Saeed and his close aides for three more months.

A notification by the home ministry of Punjab province announced the decision to extend Saeeds detention. Saeed and his aides have challenged their detention in the Lahore High Court but only a couple of hearings have been held so far in which the court had asked the government to provide written reasons for his arrest.

The crackdown on Saeed and his aides came in late January after Pakistani newspapers reported that the US had threatened to impose sanctions on Pakistan if it did not ban the JuD. Pakistani authorities, however, denied the reports.

11:35   Romancing the Maoists
In a barbaric and dastardly attack by the outlawed Maoists, India lost 25 brave CRPF personnel. They were ambushed and killed by the anarchists, who are hell-bent on stalling the development of the backward tribal areas and exploiting the situation. Some security personnel were also injured. The attack shocked the conscience of every right-thinking Indian. No sympathy or monetary compensation will make up for the loss suffered by the families of the victims. Nevertheless, the government will extend all possible help to them. As Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated, the sacrifices of the brave jawans will not go in vain.

While the Maoists are an offshoot of the communist movement, the ideological warfare unleashed by them is totally out of sync with the tenets of democracy. Disillusioned with the communists who placed their faith in democracy, a section broke away to propagate and practise a violent ideology. Unfortunately, a variety of reasons, including the lack of political will and the failure of different regimes to devise a concrete strategy to combat Maoists, the backwardness of some regions and illiteracy, provided fertile grounds to the outlaws. The Maoists have a sinister design: To prevent the development of backward regions and exploit the situation by misguiding poor villagers, striking fear among them.

11:11   OPS camp ups ante, sets 5-day 'deadline' for merger talks
Virtually setting a five day deadline for merger talks with the rival faction, rebel AIADMK leader O Panneerselvam is set to launch a statewide tour from May 5. Panneerselvam has planned to visit all 32 districts and meet his supporters during the tour which is likely to end by May last.

The tour, besides hoping the mop up support for him, is also seen as OPS's attempt to prepare them for local body elections.

"He will commence the tour from Kancheepuram," said Mettur MLA S Semmalai. Leaders in OPS faction say they expect the merger talks to come to a conclusion before the tour. "Whichever way the talks go, we expect to arrive at a clear picture before OPS launches the tour. In fact, our deadline is Tuesday," said a senior member of OPS's merger talks committee.

OPS camp has also planned to up the ante by appointing district level office bearers during his visit. "Besides the possibilities of the talks succeeding or getting stuck, there is another outcome that is highly probable - that a section of MLAs from EPS side would come out in our support," he said.

K Pandiarajan said they would not step down from the two demands - recommendation of CBI inquiry in Jayallaithaa's death and ouster of Sasikala family from party.

The accused ransacked the entire house and even the cars were vandalised.

Earlier in February, Tiwari's car was attacked by few unidentified men in Mumbai and was warned to stay away from campaigning for BMC polls in Mumbai.

09:06   Upper castes in MP village pour kerosene into well used by Dalits

08:47   You won't see red beacon on VIP cars from today
The Union Cabinet's decision to end the culture of flashing red beacons, comes into effect from today.

The Union Cabinet's decision covers all government vehicles, including those ferrying the prime minister, chief ministers, central and state ministers and judges of the Supreme Court and high courts.

The government has also decided to make amendments to the rule governing the use of blue beacons -- these can only be used by vehicles such as ambulances, fire tenders and police cars in cases of emergency -- which will be notified soon.

Even before the Centre's decision, there have been several state governments that have sought to do away with the red beacon.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was one of the first to announce that neither he nor his team would use cars with flashing lights. Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh and his Uttar Pradesh counterpart Yogi Adityanath issued similar orders after getting elected. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, too, travels without this mark of power.

The decision to ban red beacons comes more than three years after the Supreme Court first raised the issue and asked for restrictions on their use in December 2013.

On December 10 that year, a bench led by Justice G S Singhvi ruled that vehicles fitted with the red beacon would be allowed only for "high dignitaries", and directed the government to amend the Motor Vehicles Act to ensure that fines for violations were sufficiently large, so as to encourage deterrence.

The court had then asked all authorities to enforce these directions within a month.

08:39   Bengal BJP leader calls Mamata a 'eunuch', draws ire
A West Bengal BJP leader on Sunday described Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee as a "eunuch", and accused her of practising the "politics of appeasement".

While addressing a party meeting at Chandrakona in West Midnapore district, the BJP state committee member Shyamapada Mondal alleged that Banerjee has been doing what Muslims do as their religious practice.

"Mamata Banerjee is practising the politics of appeasement and indulging in theatrics. We cannot understand whether Mamata Banerjee is a man or a woman. I would say she has become a 'hijra' (eunuch) that you see in trains and buses," he said amid laughter by party supporters.

Asked to comment on the episode, Trinamool Congress secretary general Partha Chatterjee said the BJP was creating an unhealthy political environment in the state.

"By making such remarks, they are thinking that they will make their party stronger," Chatterjee said. "But they should remember that it is Bengal. This will not be so easy here. People will give them a befitting reply," he said.

08:35   Kejriwal plays down differences with Vishwas over EVMs
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has sought to quell speculation of a rift between him and Kumar Vishwas, days after the senior party leader differed with him over EVM tampering as the reason behind AAP's recent poll defeats.

Party chief Kejriwal also warned party leaders against trying to create a divide between him and his "younger brother" Vishwas, after AAP's Okhla MLA Amanatullah Khan alleged earlier that Vishwas was trying to "usurp" the AAP and that he harbours ambitions of leading the party.

On Friday, contrary to the party line that EVM rigging was behind AAP's loss in the Punjab assembly and MCD polls, Vishwas had pointed to reasons other than alleged tampering of electronic voting machines and said there is a communication gap between the top brass and volunteers.

He also said AAP was getting "Congressised" to an extent.
