Former Union minister S M Krishna has joined the Bharatiya Janata Party, weeks after he resigned from the Congress.

Krishna was one of the tallest Congress leaders and quit the party after 46 years in January.

While joining the saffron fold in presence of BJP chief Amit Shah, Krishna said India has progressed 'because of the leadership of PM Modi and Amit Shah'.

Krishna had served as chief minister of Karnataka from 1999 to 2004 and as external affairs minister during the tenure of the United Progressive Alliance I.

A day after he quit the Congress, Krishna said the party did not need mass leaders any more.

"I felt for some time that Congress doesn't need me, the party now depends on situation managers. They do not want time-tested leaders and workers," he had said. -- Agencies
