UK police are investigating a "firearms incident" near British parliament in London on Wednesday, after an assailant drove into a wall and fired multiple shots, placing the House of Commons building on lockdown.
Police are treating the event as a "terrorist incident" until they "know otherwise."
"People are asked to avoid Parliament Square; Whitehall; Westminster Bridge; Lambeth Bridge; Victoria Street up to the junction with Broadway and the Victoria Embankment up to Embankment Tube," police said in a statement.
"This is to allow the emergency services to deal with the ongoing incident. Officers - including firearms officers - remain on the scene and we are treating this as a terrorist incident until we know otherwise," the statement added.
