Congress president Sonia Gandhi who is in USA undergoing medical treatment will return on April 4. Her son and the party's vice-president who followed her to the US and is with her now, will return with her. Sonia has been in the US since March 8.


Insiders in AICC confirm that Sonia Gandhi has undergone a battery of medical tests.

In August last year, she fell ill during a road show in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's constituency of Varanasi, and was then hospitalized in Delhi, after which her attendance in parliament has been irregular.


Before flying out, she spoke to senior Congress leaders informing them of her plans; she stated that her son Rahul Gandhi, the Congress Vice President, will take decisions on her behalf.

Rahul's absence in India also means he will be missing the Budget session of Parliament which is on now, which is probably why session is functioning smoothly.

However, once Rahul is back, a bigger challenge awaits him. The party will review its performance in the assembly polls and introspect on reasons for the defeat in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
