Union minister M Venkaiah Naidu, addressing the media soon after Yogi Adiyanath was elected as leader of the legislature party in Lucknow on Saturday evening, called the selection a "watershed moment in BJP's history".

The messages from UP, he said, were one, the country wants to move with Prime Minister Narendra Modi; two, it is a mandate for vikas; three, it was a vote against corruption; four, it was a vote against votebank politics and the politics of fear.

The main agenda before the new government in Lucknow, he said, was "vikas, vikas, vikas" and "sushasan", or good governance.
