Sushma back in Lok Sabha, pitches for safety of Indians in US

External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj raised the issue of the attacks on Indians in America in the Lok Sabha. 

Addressing the Lower House, she said, "I talked to the families of Srinivas Kuchibhotla and Deep Rai. I have also raised these issues with highest authorities in US."

She added, "US authorities including Pres Donald Trump have strongly condemned these incidents.United States Secretary John Kerry also condemned these attacks on Indians in America."

The external affairs minister also said that the American authorities are also probing the case and ensuring that Indians are safe in America. 

Responding to Congress' Mallikarjun Kharge's questions as to why the current government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi was silent on the attacks, Sushma said that it was not possible that this government would keep mum on such an issue. 

She said that even though the PM was busy with electioneering, he was keeping tabs on the issue and monitoring it. 

Sushma said that she in a private capacity too tried to do all she could in this situation and that the families of the victims of the hate crimes had also thanked her and the government's efforts in the same.
