We'd be lying if we said we saw this coming. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its allies won 325 out of 403 seats in the 2017 U.P. Assembly election, a strike rate of 81%. This is the largest number of seats won by any party/coalition in UP since the Janata Party in 1977. In retrospect, the analysis of this extraordinary feat is remarkably straightforward.
