Former chief minister of Goa, Laxmikant Parsekar told Rediff.com that he wholeheartedly welcomes Manohar Parrikar as the next chief minister of the state.

Parsekar, who became the chief minister after Parrikar was asked by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to join his cabinet as Defence Minister after a landslide BJP win in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections said, "I welcome Manohar Parrikar as Goa chief minister."

Parsekar, however, refused to elaborate much on the verdict delivered by the Goans in the assembly elections in which the BJP could win only 13 seats and he himself lost his seat from Mandrem.

"I welcome the verdict of the people," Parsekar, whose tenure was marked by the overwhelming presence of defence minister Parrikar in Goa, who would often visit the state mostly over the weekends.
