Playwright Taarak Mehta passes away

Renowned Indian humorist and playwright Taarak Mehta passes away at the age of 87 years after a prolonged illness.

The popular TV series 'Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah' is a TV adaptation of  Padma Shri Taarak Mehta's column 'Duniya Ne Undha Chasma'

Mehta has translated and adapted several comedies into Gujarati, and has been a well-known figure in Gujarati theatre.

The humorous weekly column, 'Duniya Ne Undha Chasma' first appeared in Chitralekha in March 1971 and ever since has been looking at contemporary issues from a different perspective.

In 2008 SAB TV, a popular entertainment channel, started the show Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah which became the flagship show of the channel.
