Ram Nath Kovind on Dr Ambedkar

The Opposition has maintained they will only agree to a consensus candidate only if the person has secular credentials. Kovind, even though he was a BJP spokesperson, rarely made any statement and has always steered clear of controversy. One of the few times, he actually made it to the papers was when he spoke in January as on the 'reason' behind the Dr BR Ambedkar's resignation from Jawaharlal Nehru's cabinet.

The Bihar Governor said that Dr Ambedkar resigned as the law minister from Nehru's cabinet when the government refused to back the reformist Hindu Code Bill.
