The Centre has denied reports in the media that it is considering 'linking all land records with the owners' Aadhaar number and the PAN card number' under the Digital India Land Records Modernisation Programme.

Rejecting the report, a release on the Press Information Bureau said: 'The letter attributed to Cabinet Secretariat on Digitalisation of Land Records & subsequent linking of the same to AADHAR, being widely circulated in the sections of social media is completely fake and mischievous.'

'It is clarified that the government of India has issued no such letter. A police complaint has been filed in this regard and the matter is being investigated,' the release said.

Earlier, it was reported that properties not linked to PAN and Aadhar will be considered benami properties.

It was reported by a section of media that the Centre's plan to link land records with Aadhaar and PAN is considered as a valuable step towards exposing benami properties and the government hopes to bring transparency in land records. -- Agencies
