A couple from Mumbai, Saira Bano Mohammed Patel and Mohammed Patel Abdul Hamid, on Wednesday filed nomination papers for the presidential elections scheduled next month, reports Business Standard.

They told the returning officer it would be "good' if one became the president and the other the vice-president.

Four others, K Padmarajan from Tamil Nadu, Anand Singh Kushwaha from Madhya Pradesh, A Bala Raj from Telangana, and Kondekar Vijayprakash from Pune, also filed their nomination papers.

They are all likely to be rejected as they do not have 50 proposers and the same number of "seconders'.

The election to the highest office in the country is on July 17. Votes will be counted on July 20.
