The Aadhar plea involving the citizen's right to privacy and Cauvery water dispute are among four high-profile cases that will be heard by various courts today.

1. The Supreme Court will hear the Aadhaar card privacy matter today, after all the petitioners had completed their argument in the apex court on July 20.

A nine-judge Constitution bench headed by Chief Justice of India Jagdish Singh Khehar was hearing the arguments from various petitioners and respondents in the Aadhar privacy case.

2. A Delhi court will hear the matter of administrating a lie detector test to witness Abhishek Verma and accused Congress leader Jagdish Tytler in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots case.

On July 6, Abhishek Verma submitted before a Delhi court that he is ready for polygraph test on the condition that he is provided security cover.

Verma appeared before the court personally and agreed to undergo polygraph test. However, he said that he has threat perception from the accused in the case, Congress leader Jagdish Tytler, and therefore, wanted security cover.

On May 22, Tytler refused to undergo lie-detector test before the court. Earlier, in April also, Tytler refused to undergo a lie-detector test in connection with the case.

In February, the CBI had sought the court's permission for lie-detector tests on Tytler and Verma.

Tytler is accused of leading a mob in the 1984 Pul Bangash case in which three Sikhs were killed. The CBI had earlier given a clean chit to Tytler in the case but re-opened the investigation following the December 4, 2015, order in the wake of Verma's allegations.

3. The Delhi high court will hear the defamation plea filed by Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley over the use of an 'objectionable word' by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's counsel Ram Jethmalani.

A notice was issued to Kejriwal to respond on why defamation proceedings should not be initiated against him.

Jaitley's application also contends that Kejriwal's intention is to delay the conclusion of recording of evidence by posing irrelevant questions, which are designed to be insulting and annoying.

His application sought directions to expedite the recording of evidence in a time bound, fair, dignified and bona fide manner in the ongoing civil defamation case for Rs 10 crore against Kejriwal.

Jaitley's application came in connection with the defamation case against Kejriwal in the Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) case. In his complaint, Jaitley had accused Kejriwal and others of defaming him in a controversy regarding the DDCA and sought Rs 10 crore as damages. Jaitley was president of the DDCA for over a decade.

4. The Supreme Court will continue to hear the Cauvery water dispute involving Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. Yesterday, the apex court had heard arguments in the same.

The apex court on July 11 commenced final hearing on the appeals filed by Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Kerala against the 2007 Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal's final award.

A bench of the apex court, headed by Justice Dipak Misra, had earlier directed the Karnataka government to provide 200 cusecs of Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu till its further order.

On January 9, the Tamil Nadu Government sought a compensation of Rs 2,480 crores from Karnataka for not releasing water to the state despite getting the Supreme Court directive to do so.

A bench of the apex court, headed by Justice Dipak Misra and comprising Justice Amitava Roy and Justice A M Khanwilkar, extended the interim order in the water issue, directing Karnataka to release 2,000 cusecs of Cauvery water per day to Tamil Nadu.

On December 9 last year, the apex court upheld its constitutional power and right to hear appeals filed by Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Kerala.
