Being a farmer is worse than being a beggar in India: TN farmers

Tamil Nadu farmers, who had grabbed eyeballs with their unique protests, today found another way to show their disapproval for government's farmer policies.

The farmers beat themselves with chappals in protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi.

Tamil Nadu farmers are asking the Modi government to fulfill its electoral promise of 50 percent profit above the production cost and implementation of recommendations by the MS Swaminathan Committee.

The farmers are also unhappy with the Tamil Nadu government's decision to double the salary of MLAs.

"Being a farmer is worse than being a beggar in India," Ayakannu, one of the protesting farmers said during their agitation.
