Sasikala to brief AIADMK MPs today on Parliament strategy

AIADMK general secretary Sasikala Natarajan will conduct a tutorial to the 49 AIADMK MPs at 5 pm today, at the Poes Garden residence of former chief minister Jayalalithaa, on the strategy to be adopted by them in Parliament's Budget session beginning next week.

Insiders say that Deputy Speaker Thambidurai, the party leader in Parliament, wants the AIADMK to adopt an anti-Centre approach but many MPs feel that since the BJP supported Jallikattu, they should be neutral and not be seen as opposing the central government.

So strong is the sentiment in favour of Jallikattu that of the 49 MPs, six who are from the Thevar community -- as are Tamil Nadu Chief Minister O Panneerselvam and Sasikala -- want to garland Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his initiative to support the sport, sources said.

Most likely all these points will be discussed at the parliamentary party meeting and Sasikala will take a final call on extending issue-based support to the Modi government.
