India marries SAARC with BIMSTEC

Foreign Secretary S Jaishankaar has got the Saarc division merged with BIMSTEC division, making a diplomatic point that India was looking beyond the South Asian grouping, as well as make the point that the brainchild of former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi has been given a quiet burial. This, it is hoped, will also neutralise the negative role of Pakistan at SAARC summits.
