Filling secretary-level vacancies, choosing ambassadors: Jaishankar's plate is full

With S Jaishankar getting a one-year extension as foreign secretary (as first reported by us), the immediate task facing him is to fill the 28 top-level vacancies, including that of secretary (west), secretary (economic relations).

Then there's the question of choosing ambassadors to Nepal, Indonesia, Geneva and Italy and getting the names approved by the Prime Minister's Office.

Jaishankar also plans to have a new division carved out for energy security.
