Rajeev Sharma tells us: Parliament's Standing Committee on Finance, headed by M Veerappa Moily of the Congress, which was scheduled to meet in New Delhi on Wednesday, January 11, on the issue of demonetisation, has cancelled the meeting.

Reserve Bank of India Governor Urijit Patel and top finance ministry officials were scheduled to attend the meeting.

However, all the officials expressed their inability to attend Wednesday's meeting, citing preoccupation with official business, knowledgeable sources said.

While the RBI top brass is busy with post-demonetisation work, finance ministry officials are snowed under with Budget-related work.

The Standing Committee on Finance has now rescheduled the meeting for January 18.

It remains to be seen if the parliamentary panel would be able to hold its meeting even on the next date.
