SC sacks Anurag Thakur as BCCI president

Just in: The Supreme Court removes BCCI president Anurag Thakur and secretary Ajay Shirke from their posts. Supreme Court issues contempt notice to Anurag Thakur.


The Supreme Court is pronouncing its crucial order in the Board of Control for Cricket in India vs Lodha Committee matter. Apart from the larger issue of the reconstitution of the board of the BCCI, the future of BCCI president Anurag Thakur is being decided. The apex court had slammed him on his conflicting affidavit before the Supreme Court and warned him of being booked for perjury.


The SC says as per tje July 18, 2016  order, these (Anurag Thakur & Ajay Shirke) two officials did not comply with its order and thereby are being removed. SC says that the BCCI and state board officials failed to implement its orders to bring transparency and accountability in the cricket body.


The SC sets up a committee mandated with the task to implement Lodha panel reforms. All office bearers of BCCI and state associations who
refuse to abide by recommendations of Lodha panel shall demit
office forthwith. All office bearers of BCCI and state associations to give
an undertaking to abide by recommendations of Lodha Committee. Senior-most Vice President of BCCI will act as President and Joint Secy will act as Secy. SC requests senior advocate Fali Nariman and Gopal
Subramaniam to assist in nominating persons of impeccable integrity as members of committee of administrators.
