Amid speculation that Congress may join hands with the Shiv Sena to stake claim to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, Congress's senior leader Gurudas Kamat has issued a letter to the party saying that it should not align with the Sena as it would dent their credibility.

In his letter (pictured), Kamat wrote, "We have fought against both saffron parties all along for their divisive policies and people will not spare us if we attempted to align with them."

The tally of Shiv Sena, which emerged as the single largest party after the counting on Thursday, has risen to 87 corporators with three party rebels who won as Independent nominees returning to its fold on Friday.

This gave a slight push to Uddhav Thackerays efforts to cobble up numbers but reaching the magic figure of 114 seats needed to rule the crucial civic body is still a far cry.
