Even as his party needs post-poll alliance to claim the cash-rich BMC, Shiv Sena Chief Uddhav Thackeray said that Mumbai mayor and the next chief minister of Maharashtra will be from his party.

After months of acrimonious campaign for India's richest civic body, the Shiv Sena was narrowly in the lead, winning 84 seats, followed closely by the BJP with 82.

Uddhav is satisfied with the election outcome and said, "The Shiv Sena has done better in these election. Even Muslim voters have turned towards the Shiv Sena."

A party needs 114 seats to stake claim to the mayor's post.
