Mumbai recorded a voter turnout of 52.17 per cent in the elections to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation on Tuesday.

Polling for 227 seats of cash-rich BMC and nine other civic bodies across Maharashtra got over at 5.30 pm.

This is the highest voter turnout in civic polls since 2002.

In 2012, 44.85% of Mumbais registered voters took note of the BMC elections. In 2007, this figure was 46.14% and in 2002, it was an even more abysmal 43.25%.
