The Minister of State for Home Affairs, Kiren Rijiju has sparked a controversy by saying that the population of Hindus is decreasing in the country.

"Hindu population is reducing in India because Hindus never convert people. Minorities in India are flourishing unlike some countries around," the minister said in a tweet.

Rijiju was responding to the allegations made by the Congress about Arunachal Pradesh being converted into Hindu state by the Bharatiya Janata Party.

He also asked the Congress to refrain from making such allegations.

"Congress should not make such provocative statements. India is a secular country. All religious groups enjoy freedom & living peacefully," he said in another tweet.
