Apple Inc is considering taking legal action in response to US President Donald Trump's controversial refugee and immigration ban, CEO Tim Cook said in an interview with The Wall Street Journal.

Cook did not elaborate on the potential action, telling the Journal only that, "We want to be constructive and productive."

Apple has also pledged to double any donations made by its employees to refugee relief funds.

"More than any country in the world, this country is strong because of our immigrant background and our capacity and ability as people to welcome people from all kinds of backgrounds," said Cook. "That's what makes us special."

Cook's comments expand on an e-mail he sent to employees over the weekend, hours after Trump signed an executive order temporarily banning immigration from seven countries from entering the US. The 90-day ban hits people from Iran, Iraq, Syria, Yemen, Sudan, Somalia and Libya.
